Transform an Old Table into a Piece of Art Page 2

I used 3/4-inch vitreous glass tiles for the outer edge (please see the free sample Chapter 7 from my eBook about backgrounds and
borders for why I chose these tiles for the border instead of using stained glass). I used a slightly darker color for every third tile. All
other tessera pieces are made from stained glass. The gray pieces are about 1/8-inch wide and are used simply as a border to separate
the different areas of the design. The center circle comprises small squares hand-cut from dark-green stained glass.

The outer circle is made with dark-brown stained glass and the pieces represent branches for the leaves. Once I finished the outer
brown circle, I decided to work from the center outward. I had no particular reason for starting in the center except that I couldn't wait
to work with the iridescent white glass for the background around the flowers. I love the way the iridescence gives that red and green
shimmer. Can you see it in the picture below? The picture doesn't show the true colors--it's so beautiful.
The picture below shows a closeup. Don't just look at the beautiful iridescent white background! Observe how the tesserae fit tightly
like puzzle pieces. If you like that style and want to learn how to make your tesserae fit like that, my eBook gives you easy, step-by-step
instructions on how to measure and then cut your tesserae to achieve that puzzle-like look.
The next section is complete (see the picture below). For the remaining background, I used plain white stained glass because I didn't
want to overuse the iridescent white. It's starting to look good, don't you think? The pattern is very simple, but I know it's going to look
wonderful as a tabletop.
